Self-Advocate Mentors

Self-Advocate Mentors are an integral part of the Accreditation process.  They are trained not only to speak up for themselves but also their peers.  Self-Advocate Mentors participate in and facilitate focus groups.  They are well versed in rights and help others to exercise their rights.  Self-Advocate Mentors can help a person supported to interact with his or her agency to improve supports and quality of life.

In this video from the 2016 TN Disability MegaConference, members of our Accreditation Team discuss talk about what it takes to be a Self-Advocate Mentors.  Several Self-Advocate Mentors also spoke at this event as panelists answering questions for a packed conference room.
