State Route 11 (Nolensville Road)

The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is constructing a project on State Route 11 (US 31-A, Nolensville Road), from south of Burkitt Road  to near SR 254 (Old Hickory Boulevard). The project includes reconstruction and widening for approximately 4.4 miles. The proposed improvements are intended to address congestion, improve safety, and accommodate growth in this rapidly developing area.

The existing roadway is primarily two lanes. The project will widen the existing roadway to a five-lane facility, including two 12-foot travel lanes in each direction, a 12-foot dedicated center turn lane, 10-foot paved shoulders, bike lanes, curb and gutter and five-foot sidewalks on each side. Due to the size of improvements to SR 11, TDOT has split this project into two phases. Phase 1, from north of Mill Creek to near SR 254 in southern Davidson County, is currently under construction.

Current Status: The construction contract for work between north of Mill Creek and SR 254 has been awarded, and work is underway.

Estimated completion: July 2027

Traffic Impacts

This area of Davidson County has experienced rapid growth in recent years and the current facility does not adequately accommodate the existing volumes. The route has a base year 2023 average daily traffic of 20,457 vehicles per day and a design year 2043 average daily traffic of 35,994 vehicles per day. The added capacity being provided by this improvement is necessary to maintain operations at an acceptable level of service.

Due to the significant cost estimate to appraise and acquire Right of Way within the project limits, the proposed improvements will be separated into two smaller sections or phases.

·         Phase I: north of Mill Creek to near SR 254 (Old Hickory Boulevard) in southern Davidson County  

·         Phase II: south of Burkitt Road to north of Mill Creek

A Community Meeting was held on January 8, 2024, at May Werthan Shayne Elementary School, 6217 Nolensville Pike, Nashville, TN, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The purpose of the meeting was to update the public on the widening of Nolensville Pike from north of the Mill Creek Bridge to SR 254 (Old Hickory Boulevard) in Davidson County.

Environment

Erosion Prevention and Sediment Control best management practice measures will be installed and maintained during roadway construction to minimize the likelihood of sediment and debris deposition from the project site.

The project is to be constructed with minimal impact on the adjacent Mill Creek watershed which provides habitat for the Nashville Crayfish. The Nashville Crayfish is on the Federally Protected Species List.
