Benefits for Employers

One of the biggest challenges Tennessee employers face is bridging the skilled labor gap that hinders a company’s efforts to expand, innovate and thrive. Registered apprenticeship is a tried and proven method to overcoming this obstacle.

  • Through the Apprenticeship TN Office, a company can build a program that will help them recruit, train, and retain highly skilled employees.
  • Registered apprenticeship is an industry-driven, high-quality career pathway where employers can develop and prepare their future workforce.
  • Employers benefit from registered apprenticeship programs with increased productivity, safety, worker versatility, and employee retention. Typically, apprentices remain loyal to a business because they recognize the fact that the company has invested time and energy to help them achieve their career goals.

The concept behind apprenticeship has not changed much over the last five decades, but the types of industries successfully using apprenticeship has. Today, Tennessee has apprenticeship programs in health care, graphic design, sewing, along with the traditional mechanical and construction trades.

Tennessee is committed to growing the number of traditional and non-traditional apprenticeship programs across the state. As part of the Apprenticeship TN program, an Apprenticeship Director will meet with business owners to explore options, identify partnerships and help them through the registration processes, all at no cost to the company.

Return on Investment

Apprenticeships have a great "Return on Investment" for companies with programs.  It is estimated a company's ROI is $1.46 for every $1 invested.  Also, most companies see a 94 percent retention rate after an apprentice completes its program.
