Denso Manufacturing Tennessee, Inc. Receives Commissioner's Award of Excellence
NASHVILLE – Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner Burns Phillips announced that DENSO Manufacturing Tennessee, Inc. located in Maryville, Tennessee, was chosen to receive the Commissioner’s Award of Excellence for Workplace Safety and Health.
"DENSO Manufacturing Tennessee, Inc. has demonstrated a strong commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace," said Phillips, who presented the award today at the closing session of the Tennessee Safety and Health Congress in Nashville. “The evaluation criteria for this award are challenging, and this company has worked extremely hard to meet and exceed the standards the award requires.”
The Commissioner’s Award of Excellence honors Tennessee employers and employees who meet a required number of hours without workplace injuries serious enough to cause an employee to miss a day of work. The number of hours required is based on the company’s size.
A leading supplier of advanced technology to the automotive industry, DENSO is Blount County’s largest employer with nearly 3,800 people and produces starters, alternators, instrument clusters, a wide range of electronic components and an inverter for hybrid vehicles. The company qualified for the Commissioner’s Award by working more than three million hours without a lost-time workplace injury or illness during a period in 2013. This is the sixth consecutive year that DENSO Manufacturing Tennessee, Inc. has achieved this award.
