The Academic Common Market (ACM) was created in 1974 as a way to share specialized academic programs among Southern Regional Education Board states. Over 1,800 programs at the baccalaureate and higher degree levels in over 140 public colleges and universities currently participate in the program. For programs of study not available in a student’s home state, the student may apply through the ACM program to receive in-state tuition status or a waiver for out-of-state fees.
The Southern Regional Education Board, with the cooperation of sixteen southern states, administers the Academic Common Market. The ACM participant states are Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida*, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina*, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas*, Virginia and West Virginia.
*Florida, North Carolina, and Texas participate at the graduate level only.
