Public Forum on Progress of the TennCare II

The Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Finance and Administration is providing official notification, pursuant to 42 CFR § 431.420(c), that a public forum is being held to accept comments on the progress of the TennCare Demonstration.

TennCare is an expansion of the State of Tennessee’s Medicaid program, a demonstration project that has operated under waivers of certain provisions of federal law since 1994.  A key principle being “demonstrated” by TennCare is that a state can organize its Medicaid program under a managed care model and offer a more robust benefit package than had previously been available, without spending more than the Medicaid program would have spent in the absence of the Demonstration and without compromising quality of care.

The progress of the TennCare Demonstration is the subject of the upcoming public forum, and a variety of resources are available on the TennCare website to assist individuals who are interested in participating.  Introductory materials that summarize key concepts and principles related to the Demonstration include a one-page synopsis, a more comprehensive and detailed description of the Demonstration referred to as the Operational Protocol, and the agreement between TennCare and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) defining the terms and conditions under which the Demonstration may operate.  Other documents that portray the TennCare program at various points in time—and, therefore, relate directly to the progress of the Demonstration—include:

The public forum will be held on December 17, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. CT in the Auditorium at the Nashville Public Library, 615 Church Street in Nashville.

Individuals with disabilities who wish to participate in the forum and who may require aid to do so should contact Helen Moore, TennCare’s ADA Coordinator, at least 10 days in advance.  Ms. Moore’s contact information is:
