| Trooper Charles Hash was the first Tennessee Highway Patrol member to lose his life in the line of duty. Trooper Hash was injured while operating a motorcycle. He was thrown from his motorcycle after being struck by a car. He passed away 8 days later at a Memphis hospital at the age of 32. |

Trooper Ed Kennedy lost his life in an automobile accident while traveling on Highway 70 in Crab Orchard. |

December 17, 1934 |
| Trooper Lindsey Smith was shot while responding to a domestic dispute in Tullahoma. The suspect shot another responding officer from the Tullahoma Police department before fleeing to a church. A second Tullahoma officer was also shot while searching the church for the suspect, and Trooper Smith was shot twice as the suspect came around the corner of the church. All three officers lost their lives as a result of the gunshot wounds they received. |
