Public Affairs Office
TDOS Office of Public Affairs is committed to fostering a relationship of mutual trust, cooperation and respect with the public. Providing information to media outlets is an important aspect of achieving this goal – so is offering a topical, customer-centric on-line source of information. It is the policy of the Tennessee Department of Safety Office of Public Affairs to make every reasonable effort to accommodate the news media to keep the public adequately informed, without jeopardizing safety, evidence, or the rights of suspects, defendants and other citizens. The Public Affairs Office prepares and disseminates all media releases, statements, advisories, reports and other communication tools to keep the news media and public informed. TDOS Public Affairs
Mike Browning Mike Browning started with the Tennessee Department of Safety as a Public Information Officer in November, 2006, and now serves as the Director for Public Affairs. Prior to that, he spent more than three years as a reporter for WKRN-TV, the ABC affiliate in the Music City. Browning worked in a number of cities throughout his television career, including markets in Connecticut, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas and Illinois. Browning earned his undergraduate degree in Radio-TV from Southern Illinois University and a graduate degree in Public Administration from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
Laura McPherson
Laura McPherson is the Public Information Officer for the Tennessee Department of Safety. She came to Nashville in 2002 to work as a general assignment reporter for WSMV-TV, the NBC affiliate in Nashville. McPherson has more than 11 years of experience in television news and radio. A Texas native, McPherson left the south to attend the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University in New York, where she graduated with honors in Broadcast Journalism.
Beth Denton
Beth Denton brings more than 10 years of communications and marketing experience to the Tennessee Department of Safety. Responsible for community outreach and marketing activities, Beth works with the external and internal audiences of the agency to promote the department’s services and activities. Joining the department in 2003 as its Public Information Officer, she has served in several capacities providing her with a broad knowledge of the department. Her background includes communications and marketing work in the non-profit, public and government sectors. A native of Tennessee, Beth graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
Mark Bourque Mark Bourque serves as the Media Producer for the Tennessee Department of Safety from 1999 to the present. In 1995, he joined the Department of Employment Security and continued his state service in media production with the Department of Environment and Conservation. Bourque has more than 30 years experience working in the fields of media production, directing, writing, video productions, graphic design and layout and still photography. He is a native of Nashville, Tennessee, and earned his undergraduate degree in Telecommunications from Middle Tennessee State University. Bourque also holds a Masters Degree in Communication and a second Masters Degree in Education.
Olivia McNair
In October, 2006, Olivia McNair began employment with the Tennessee Department of Safety as an Administrative Services Assistant 2 in the Commissioner's Office. In addition to other office responsibilities, she is responsible for producing The Safety Net employee newsletter. She came to TDOS from the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency (MDHA) in Nashville, where she was employed for 12 years as the General Services Administrative Staff Assistant responsible for managing MDHA's Safety Program and producing agency publications. A Mississippi native, McNair is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg.
