Nashville, Tennessee --- The Tennessee Department of Safety reminds drivers that reinstatement services are being added to more driver license centers every month to better serve customers. Seventeen counties across the state now have driver license centers that offer reinstatement services.
On January 1, 2008, three more driver license centers were added to the five driver license centers that began providing reinstatement services in 2007. In February, six more offices in East Tennessee are adding reinstatement services to bring the number of counties with centers offering reinstatements to seventeen. Five centers have previously offered reinstatements as part of regular service.
Department of Safety Commissioner Dave Mitchell stated, “We realize how difficult it is for those with a suspended or revoked license to work and contribute to our economy without a valid driver license. Our goal is to eventually move reinstatement services to all driver license centers. We hope to have examiners trained to offer reinstatement services in every driver license office by the end of 2008.”
The purpose of integrating financial responsibility functions into driver license centers is to make the services more accessible to the public and ease the ability to regain the privilege to drive. Some of the most common reasons a license is suspended or revoked is due to a DUI conviction, failure to pay driving citations and failure to show proof of insurance.
Since November 1, 2007, customers in the Nashville, Memphis and Knoxville areas have been able to visit selected driver licenses centers for reinstatement services. In Nashville, some customers may still be confused that reinstatements are still being offered at the Foster Avenue Headquarters location. That service was discontinued on November 1, 2007. These services are now available at the Hart Lane and West Nashville locations.
Drivers wanting to reinstate their license are also urged to call the Toll Free number at (866) 903-7357 or visit our website at www.tennesseeanytime.org/tndlr or www.tennessee.gov to determine precisely what information and documentation is necessary for reinstatement before visiting the Driver License Centers.
Motorists may also pay reinstatement fees using a credit or debit card, either online at these websites, or at the driver license centers offering reinstatement services.
Tennesseans, with a suspended or revoked license, will need documentation, such as proof of insurance (SR-22 Insurance form) and proof of citations and fees paid in order to successfully reinstate their license. Documentation evidencing United States citizenship, Lawful Permanent Residency or an authorized stay in this country is also required to reinstate a driver license. The requirements of reinstatement are based on the reason the driver license was suspended/revoked. In Tennessee, there are currently over 700,000 canceled, suspended or revoked drivers who need reinstatement services in order to regain a valid driving privilege.
