July 17, 2007

MEDIA ADVISORY - Organizations Having Distinguished Themselves by Extraordinary Support of D.A.R.E. Will Be Honored as D.A.R.E. Champions during Awards Ceremonies

WHAT:      July 17-19, 2007, D.A.R.E. America hosts the 20th Annual D.A.R.E. International Training
Conference. Several thousand chiefs of police, sheriffs, D.A.R.E. instructors and educators
from throughout the nation and from around the world will attend the conference. The focus of
the conference is training to enhance the skills and abilities of officers delivering the D.A.R.E.
program. During the conference new D.A.R.E. curricular components addressing the topics of
prescription (Rx)/over-the-counter (OTC) drug abuse will be unveiled. The new materials have
been developed in response to the increasing abuse of Rx/OTC drugs by youth. Involved in the
creation of the new D.A.R.E. lessons were the following:

D.A.R.E. Scientific Advisory Board
White House Office of National Drug Control Policy
U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration
U.S. Food and Drug Administration
National Institute on Drug Abuse
Center for Substance Abuse Prevention, SAMHSA
Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA)
Pharmaceutical Research and Manufactures Association (PhRMA)
Abbott Laboratories

PhRMA, CHPA and Abbott Laboratories not only gave unselfishly of personnel and
organizational expertise, but also were exceedingly generous in their financial support to this
project. Without the assistance provided by these three organizations, delivery of the new
D.A.R.E. Rx/OTC Abuse lessons would remain in the distant future as would the help these
lessons will bring to our nation’s youth. The commitment and actions of PhRMA, CHPA and
Abbott Laboratories have truly distinguished them as D.A.R.E. Champions.
