In Tennessee, there were 10 fatal crashes resulting in 11 deaths in 2005, yielding a fatality rate of one death per seven hours and five minutes.

Alcohol Related Deaths: 4 (36%)

Vehicle Occupants Killed: 8

  • Of the eight vehicle occupants killed, 4 (50%) were not wearing safety restraints.
  • Of the four unrestrained, three (75%) were ejected from the vehicle.
  • No child passengers requiring child restraint devices were killed.

Motorcyclists: 2 (All Wearing Helmets)

HIGHEST DEATHS

The highest number of deaths in a 102 - hour Fourth of July holiday period occurred in 1996, when 27 people were killed in traffic crashes in Tennessee, yielding a fatality rate of one death per three hours and 42 minutes.

LOWEST DEATHS

The lowest number of deaths in a 78 - hour Fourth of July holiday period occurred in 1998, when 8 people were killed in traffic crashes in Tennessee, yielding a fatality rate of one death per nine hours and 45 minutes.

The 2006 Fourth of July holiday period will begin 6 p.m. on Friday, June 30 and continue until 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, July 4. This will be a 102 - hour holiday period.
