Sergeant and Lieutenant Vacancy Posting Chart Definition Guide

Position Number: The position number is unique for each vacancy. The position number is linked to a page detailing job duties and any special requirements for that specific position. Each position is unique and therefore has a unique description.

Title: This column indicates whether the position listed is for THP Sergeant or THP Lieutenant.

Work County: The work county is a geographical location where the position is based.

District/Division: The division code is THP indicating a Trooper position followed by the district number. A listing of districts, their corresponding number, counties served, and other information can be found on the THP home page. The code in this column is linked to this information.
THP9 - The THP's ninth district is the administrative district and therefore has no corresponding map. Most administrative positions are located in the Nashville - Davidson County area.

Assignment: The assignment describes which troop, division, or specialty unit the position is assigned to.

Vacated Date: Date position became vacant or reclassed.

Vacancy Listing Posting Date: begins 14 calendar day awareness notification.

Vacancy Listing Closing Date: 14 calendar days after the Vacancy Listing Posting Date.

Closing Date of Transfer: All Requests For Transfer must be received in the Colonel's office by the Vacancy Listing Closing Date. A new Request for Transfer form (SF-01117 as attached to General Order 215), must be completed and submitted for any current or future considerations.

List of Eligibles Notified and Reappointment Considerations: This column will contain a number. This number represents the number of letters sent out to applicants on the certified civil service register. A complete list of applicants receiving letters is available by clicking on the number which is a link to a page containing this information. Applicants certified on the civil service register will have 7 calendar days from the date of the letter to inform the Human Resources Division of their intent to interview. During this same posted timeframe any current employee with re-appointment rights (DOHR rule 1120-2-.10(9)), shall notify in writing the Department of Safety’s Human Resource Director of their interest for interview/consideration. This intent shall contain the division/assignment of posted position, the employee’s email address, fax number and contact number(s).

Responses Received: This column will contain a number that represents the number of responses received from applicants who received a notification letter. A complete list of applicants and their response is available by clicking the number which is a link to a page containing this information. Applicants will have 7 calendar days from the date of the letter to respond for an interview.

Interviewed: This column will contain a number. This number represents the number of applicants who received letters, have either indicated they are interested or not interested, and have interviewed for the position. A complete list of applicants is available by clicking the number which links to a table containing this information.

Certification Number: A certification number will be present when an applicant is chosen to fill the position. A complete list of applicants and who was selected is available by clicking the number which is a link to a page containing this information.

Reappointment:  As defined by DOHR rule 11-2-.10(9) - Any state employee who is a current career service employee is eligible for appointment to any classification in which the employee formerly held career status or to any related classification to which the employee could have been demoted, reduced in rank or transferred without further examination or certification, provided the employee has not had a break in State government employment.  Any current employee with reappointment rights, shall notify in writing the Department of Safety’s Human Resource Director of their interest for interview/consideration.  This intent shall contain the division/assignment of posted position, the employee’s email address, fax number and contact number(s).

Transfer:  A change from one position in a classification to another position in the same classification.
