Is it possible to renew my driver license online?

Answer: Yes, you can renew your driver license online. Here is a list of items you need to use our online driver license renewal program.

1. Have a valid Tennessee Class D or M license
   

   • Holders of CDL Class A, B or C license must renew in person at a DL Office and provide their current valid DOT Medical Card.
   • Holders of an expiring Certificate for Driving (Class TD / TM) and holders of an expiring Temporary Driver License (Class XD / XM) or Temporary Identification License (Class XID) must renew in person at a DL Office. These applicants will be required to provide updated proof of current legal presence and period of authorized stay along with 2 proofs of current Tennessee residence address at the time of renewal.
2. Have a current photo driver license without a renewal sticker affixed to the back. If a renewal sticker was issued through the mail for the last renewal, the resident will need to visit a DL Office to renew. Renewals via the mail or the Internet are only available on alternating renewal cycles in order to ensure that the photograph on file is a current representation of the resident's physical appearance.
3. Do not need any changes or corrections to your name or date of birth as they currently appear on the Tennessee driver license. If changes or corrections are needed, you will need to apply in person at a driver license office.
4. Have a valid Visa or MasterCard for payment of fees.
5. Allow 3 weeks for the receipt of your new photo driver license.

NOTE: Tennessee's new law requires that anyone issued a Tennessee driver's license since January 1, 2001, as well as first-time applicants, be required to provide documentation they are either a U.S. Citizen or a lawful permanent resident at the time of their first renewal. In these instances, you may not renew by mail or by the internet; you will be required to visit a Driver License Station.
