More About Online Services

The Department of Revenue offers several convenient and secure electronic filing and payment options to Tennessee taxpayers via the Internet. Electronic filing of the sales and use tax, consumer use tax, individual income tax, professional privilege tax, and franchise and excise tax minimum pay returns, estimated payments and extensions is available at this site. Taxpayers may also make tax bill payments at Revenue's Web site. Convenient payment options include electronic funds transfer (EFT) and credit card. MasterCard, American Express and Discover Card are accepted with an associated 2.49 percent processing fee.

The Department also administers electronic data interchange-based (EDI) filings programs for sales and use tax and motor fuels taxes. An EFT program for all business taxes is also offered that can accept both automated clearinghouse (ACH) debit and ACH credit EFT payments. Tax registration and related activities, such as change of address, for many business taxes are also offered online.

Access to information about vehicles registered in Tennessee to authorized users is also available.

Future plans include expanding these convenient electronic services to more online filing applications, as well as adding additional vehicle title and registration services.

In order to assist customers with electronic filing, the Department of Revenue provides computer access in its offices in Chattanooga, Jackson, Johnson City, Knoxville, Memphis and Nashville. The department also offers an electronic commerce hot line to assist taxpayers and tax practitioners who use the department's ever-expanding suite of electronic tax filing options. The statewide toll-free phone number is (866) 368-6374. Nashville-area and out-of-state callers should dial (615) 253-0704.
