Tennessee Access to Recovery II
What is Access to Recovery?
Access to Recovery is a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration discretionary grant which has its origins in a Presidential initiative to provide client choice among alcohol and/or drug treatment and recovery support services to more individuals in need. Through the use of a voucher system, consumers are able to choose from over 80 statewide providers to include secular for profits and nonprofits, as well as faith based organizations.
The Office of the Governor was awarded over $17 million for a three year project which provided treatment and/or recovery services entitled Access to Recovery I in 2004. During this three year period, under the administration of the Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services over 13,000 Tennesseans suffering with the disease of addiction received the help by freedom of choice to access needed services.
Tennessee’s second ATR grant, known as ATR II, builds upon the success of the first project by improving and expanding a statewide voucher system to now include the criminal justice population as one of its target populations. This award totaling over $14 million for three years will enable TDMHDD to sustain the treatment and recovery support services from ATR I.
