Weekly Certification

You are responsible for certifying your eligibility by the TIPS Line or by Internet on a weekly basis as long as you are unemployed. Weekly eligibility questions are located in the Guide for Receiving UI Benefits.

Days for filing

Weekly Certifications

If the last digit of your

Social Security Number is:

Sunday

0,2,4,6,8

Monday

1,3,5,7,9

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are make-up days if you missed your assigned day to certify.

Stopping a Claim

If you do not file a weekly certification, the TDLWD assumes you have returned to work or no longer wish to claim benefits; it is not necessary to contact the TDLWD to stop your benefit payments.

Your PIN Number

Your PIN number is a four-digit number created the first time you file for unemployment. You will also be requested to establish secondary security information. Your PIN number is used when you certify for your benefits weekly and if you want to file an appeal.

What to do if you lock your PIN?

If you forget your PIN, lock your PIN, or if you believe that someone else knows your PIN, you can unlock your PIN by:

  • Going online to ui.tn.gov and enter an incorrect PIN three (3) times. You will be given an option to enter your secondary security information, then you will be able to create a new PIN number.
  • Calling the UI Claims Center TIPS Line (615-253-0800 or 1-877-813-0950).
  • Faxing (615-253-0808 or 615-253-0813) your request to “Unlock PIN” to the UI Claims Center.

Benefit Payments

Tennessee Unemployment Insurance claimants receive their benefits via the Tennessee Automated Payment (TAP) debit card or direct deposit.
