Blind & Visually Impaired Services

The Division of Rehabilitation Services offers several programs to assist individuals who are blind or visually impaired. These services include:

Deaf-Blind Services

Newsline for the Blind and Visually Impaired
Tennessee Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired and the National Federation of the Blind partner to provide the Newsline for the Blind Service statewide. The Newsline is an automated newspaper reading service that allows individuals wo are legally blind to access more than fifty newspapers using a standard touch-tone telephone. The newspapers currently available include the USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and New York Times. In addition, the local newspapers are also available in Chattanooga, Nashville, and Memphis. Callers can listen to articles of their choice. Individuals must complete an application and be approved by the National Federation of the Blind in order to access the service. Eligible applicants are assigned a personal identification number or PIN that allows them to access the service anywhere in the state toll free.
