DHS ISSUES FAMILIES FIRST FUNDING ANNOUNCEMENT

NASHVILLE -The Tennessee Department of Human Services has issued a Funding Announcement for Families First Services to be provided for Fiscal Years 2002 and 2003. Families First is the state’s welfare reform program funded under the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) federal welfare block grant.

All education, training and employment services provided to Families First participants are purchased from local community based agencies across the state. This Funding Announcement requests proposals from agencies wishing to provide such services in their community. Local DHS Area Managers have assessed their local county needs and determined what services are needed for FY 2002 and 2003. Agencies interested in this funding announcement should contact the local DHS Area Manager to find out what services will be purchased for each county.

Proposals are due back to the DHS Area Managers by March 2, 2001. Local Families First Councils and the DHS office will rate proposals and decide which agencies will provide needed services. Announcements of grantees will be made by April 3, 2001. Grant periods will start July 1, 2001.

If you are interested in submitting a proposal to provide Families First services in your area, contact your local DHS office for a copy of the Announcement of Funding or log onto the DHS internet web-site at www.state.tn.us/humanserv. An information sharing meeting regarding the announcement will be held on February 14, 2001 at 1 pm in the Citizens Plaza Building, 400 Deaderick Street, Nashville, Tennessee.
