Background Checks for Child Care Employees

All individuals working in licensed child care in Tennessee must submit to a criminal history background check through the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI). This law was passed by the General Assembly in 2000 and can be found in Tennessee Code Annotated 37-5-511

Report Card and Star Quality Program

The report card system requires that every licensed child care agency undergo an annual evaluation. The Star Quality Program is a voluntary program that recognizes agencies that exceed minimum licensing standards.

Child Care Resource and Referral Centers (CCR & R’s)

The CCR & R’s help parents find the type of care that is best for their child or children. These community resources also give providers technical assistance to better serve the children in their care.
