Tennessee Human Rights Commission 2023 Annual Report Released

THRC RELEASE ANNUAL REPORT AND TITLE VI REPORT FOR FY 2022-2023.

(Nashville, TN – December 12, 2023) - The Tennessee Human Rights Commission (THRC) Board of Commissioner’s approved the fiscal year 2022-2023 annual report and Title VI compliance program annual report at the November 17, 2023, Commission meeting. The full annual report is available here.

The annual report provides background on the Commission, information regarding education and outreach initiatives, and details statistical information on agency enforcement efforts. Through the THRC’s efforts in education and enforcement, the Commission safeguards the rights of individuals in employment, housing and public accommodation based on race, creed, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, age (40 and over in employment), familial status (housing only).

“I am honored to share the annual report on behalf of the Tennessee Human Rights Commission. I invite Tennesseans to learn about the work of the Commission in fiscal year 2022-2023 and our efforts to safeguard individuals from discrimination,” said Muriel Nolen, Executive Director of the THRC.

At the November 17, 2023, Commission meeting, the THRC Board of Commissioner’s also accepted the annual report for the agency’s Title VI compliance program. The Title VI annual report is available here.

The Title VI annual report provides background on the Commission’s efforts to monitor Title VI compliance across 49 departments/agencies in the State of Tennessee. Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, and national origin in any program or activity that receives Federal funds or Federal financial assistance.

The Tennessee Human Rights Commission is an independent state agency responsible for providing education and enforcement of the state’s anti-discrimination laws, which prohibit discrimination in housing, employment, and public accommodation and coordinates compliance with Title VI of the Civil rights Act of 1964.
