First Lady Maria Lee Announces 1,400 Service Hours Completed by Kids in Summer Challenge
Top participants to join Governor and First Lady Lee at the Tennessee Residence for a carnivalNASHVILLE, Tenn. – Today, Tennessee First Lady Maria Lee announced that kids from across the state completed 1,400 hours of service during the first annual Tennessee Kids Serve Summer Challenge.
“We are humbled and encouraged by the kids that devoted a portion of their summer break to serving others,” said Lee. “Our hope is that their love for service continues to grow and becomes a part of their everyday life.”
In May, Lee launched Tennessee Serves, an initiative designed to encourage Tennesseans to serve one another and volunteer in their communities. As a component of her initiative, Lee introduced the Tennessee Kids Serve Summer Challenge with the goal of instilling in children a heart for service. Rising kindergarten through sixth grade students were tasked with completing a minimum of three to five service projects from eight categories including serving the elderly, food-insecure and first responders.
Top participants of the Tennessee Kids Serve Summer Challenge will join Governor and First Lady Lee at the Tennessee Residence for a carnival on Saturday, September 14.
