NASHVILLE – A Williamson County man is charged with TennCare fraud and theft of services for allegedly misrepresenting his financial responsibilities so he could obtain TennCare benefits.

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) today announced the arrest of 29-year-old Anthony Rendina of Spring Hill. The arrest was a multi-agency effort also involving the 21st Judicial District Drug Task Force, the federal Health and Human Services agency and Drug Enforcement Agency, Tennessee’s Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services and TBI.

Investigators allege that Rendina claimed custody of his three children and reported to the state they were living in his home. As a result, TennCare paid more than $5,075.00 in fees and claims on behalf of Rendina.

“OIG prides itself on protecting Tennessee’s great citizens and their important tax dollars,” Interim Inspector General Chad Holman said. “We will continue to pursue those attempting to take advantage of our Medicaid system and bring them to justice.”

Both charges against Rendina are class D felonies. The case is being prosecuted by 21st Judicial District Attorney General Kim R. Helper of Williamson County.

The OIG, which is separate from TennCare, began full operation in February 2005 and has identified and investigated more than 130,349 potential fraud cases leading to more than $9.2 million being repaid to TennCare.
