Commit to Quit 2009

The Employee Wellness program is pleased to offer Commit to Quit 2009, a six-week effort to help state workers continue their success or begin the quit process. Culminating with the Great American Smoke Out on November 19, Commit to Quit 2009 is intended to provide you with the tools and information to make the right decisions throughout the quit process.

HOW IT WORKS

  Step 1: Find a support buddy
  Find a non-smoking buddy who will support you as you go smoke-free.
  Go to page 20 of the Commit to Quit 2009 booklet for tips on how buddies can help.

  Step 2: Register online
  You will need an active e-mail address to receive all program information and weekly tips. If you don't have an e-mail address, arrange to use a friend or coworker's address.
  Register by October 6, 2009. The program will begin on October 8.

  Step 3:Receive your Commit to Quit 2009 booklet (in electronic format) and weekly e-mail Quit Tips
  Print and review all the information in your booklet.
  Share the information with your buddy.

  Step 4: Decide your quit process
  Decide your quit date
  Decide how you will quit
  Set an appointment with your doctor to discuss quitting and quit aids that may benefit you
  Call the Tennessee Tobacco QuitLine at 1-800-QuitNow (1-800-784-8669)

  Step 5: Quit smoking
  Quit smoking on or before the Great American Smokeout on November 19

  Step 6: By quitting you now have
  More money in your wallet (see the smoking cost calculator). You can now plan a wonderful vacation with the money saved, or treat yourself to that special something that you have always wanted.
  Regained 11 minutes of life for each cigarette not smoked.
  Lowered heart rate and blood pressure after 20 minutes of being quit.
  Normal carbon monoxide level in your blood after 12 hours of being quit.
  Improved circulation and increased lung function after two weeks to three months of being quit.

  Step 7: Let us know how you did!
  Complete and return the Commit to Quit Evaluation to Regina Ranish.

STOP SMOKING SEMINARS - Setting the Stage to Quit
This 90 minute session offers an overview of the quit process, along with resources and tools to help you kick the habit. Participants will discover many proven, effective ways to stop using tobacco in order to live a healthier and more productive life at work and at home. You can register using our online scheduling system.
