Do You Want to Make a Difference?

Let’s face it. Sometimes state government gets a bad rap. "Too intrusive, too controlling," people complain. However, did you ever consider the contribution state government makes?

If you’re hungry, you walk into a restaurant and order a meal. You don’t worry about food poisoning. You assume the food is safe. Why? Because state government has in place a program to inspect and rate restaurants in terms of safety and cleanliness.

If you want to travel from one place in the state to another, you get in your car and go. You don’t bother to check to see if there is a road to get you to your destination. You assume there will be a road. Why? Because state government provides for safe and well-maintained roads and highways.

If you have children, you expect to send them to school. You don’t worry about whether you can afford to pay a teacher for your children. You assume there is a school in your area where your children can learn. Why? Because state government assures that educational facilities are provided for all children.

These assumptions we make every day are undreamed of in some societies. Whether it’s getting a haircut or getting a measles immunization, state government plays a vital role in nearly every aspect of our lives to assure that we have a stable and secure environment in which to live. Employment with state government provides any qualified person an opportunity to serve their state and country in a real and significant way.
