Spark Ignition and Reciprocating Internal Combustion Engines

**Final Area Source Rule for new SI and RICE engines**

New! Notice to Manufacturers and Owners of new and reconstructed SI and RICE Engines at Area Sources

EPA made effective an Area Source Rule on January 18, 2008, New Performance standards for stationary Spark Ignition Internal Combustion Engines and National Emission Standards Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAPs) for Reciprocating Internal Combustion Engines (RICE). Please note that this rule is for new or reconstructed engines, for which you began construction on or after June 12, 2006.

EPA plans to address existing SI and RICE engines via separate rule making in 2009. Click here for more details regarding EPA’s proposed rule for existing SI and RICE engines.
