How can my school help improve air quality?
Cleaner air benefits everyone, especially children, and each of us can do something to help improve air quality. Two areas where school systems can help include improving energy efficiency and reducing diesel school bus emissions.
Energy efficiency means using energy wisely.
Approximately 60 percent of our electricity is produced by burning coal, which in turn creates air pollution. By using energy wisely and reducing our energy use, we can lessen the demand for electricity production. Administrators, teachers and students can all take actions to help to improve air quality and save money.
Practice energy conservation in the classroom and throughout the school. Reducing energy consumption will also help save you money.
Increase the use of clean energy technologies in school systems.
Help schools reinvest their savings from energy improvements.
Improve the learning environment of schools through day lighting and better temperature control.
