TCAP Results at a Glance

Highlights

  • Students made gains on all high school End of Course exams with the largest gains in Algebra II and Chemistry.
  • All individual grades made gains in math. There are nearly 22,000 more students on grade level in math this year than in 2014.
  • Compared to 2011, 131,000 more students are on grade level in math, and nearly 60,000 more students are on grade level in science.
  • The number of students on grade level in Algebra II has almost doubled since 2011.
  • Nearly 60,000 more students are on grade level in science compared to 2011. 
  • Black, Hispanic, and Native American and economically disadvantaged students narrowed achievement gaps in all high school subjects.
  • Consistent with the department’s commitment to raising expectations for all students, nearly 16,000 Tennessee students transitioned from taking the MAAS, a modified assessment, to the regular TCAP.
High School End of Course (EOC) Exams
  • High school students made gains in all subjects.
  • In 2015, students made strong growth in English III, which resulted in more than 2,300 more students on grade level than last year.
  • This is the fifth year of steady growth in high school math and Biology.
3-8 Achievement Test
  • Students made gains in 13 out of 18 tests in grades 3-8 math, reading, and science.
  • All 3-8 grades made gains in math, resulting in nearly 20,000 more students on grade level than last year
  • Students in grades 3-8 continued to show growth in science.  Compared to 2011, more than 43,000 third through eighth graders are on grade level in science.
  • Seventh and eighth graders made gains in English language arts, while students in grades 3-6 declined.
  • Black, Hispanic, and Native American students are closing the achievement gap between them and their peers in both 3-8 math and reading.
