Tennessee set state benchmarks for improvement that increase incrementally toward meeting the NCLB goal of 100 percent of students proficient in math and reading/language arts by 2014. Likewise, each Tennessee school has its own track for improvement based on how the school was performing when the law passed and how far it had to go in each category to reach 100 percent proficiency.
