As part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, also known as the stimulus package, Tennessee is set to receive education aid funding, including dollars directed to areas like Title I, Individuals with Disabilities and proven education reform initiatives. Final dollar allocations will begin to be provided in March 2009.
On March 7, U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan announced that $44 billion in Recovery Act funding will be available to states in the next 30 to 45 days to help drive crucial education improvements and results for students.

Child Care Development Fund
- The Tennessee Department of Human Services has received funding for the Child Care Development Fund through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. These federal dollars will be used for a child care scholarship program for low-income working families who are not eligible for existing child care assistance categories, such as Families First (Tennessee’s Temporary Assistance to Needy Families or TANF program). All state-licensed child care agencies(centers, group and family homes) are being invited to participate in this program, including those licensed through the Tennessee Deparment of Education.
