Adoption Coordinator InformationInformation and Procedures for 2006-2008 Textbook Adoptions During the 2007-08 school year, school systems will be adopting new textbooks in area of Social Studies K – 12. You may appoint as many committees as necessary to conform to your local organizational structure. All members of the local textbook selection committees are required to subscribe to the oath appearing on ED-2154, which may be administered by any notary public. The State Textbook Commission formulated the recommended list on October 4-5, 2007 and forward it to the State Board of Education for their consideration on November 2, 2007. Publishers will be notified that sample textbooks are to be delivered to you by January 6, 2008. Tennessee Book Company has again graciously agreed to coordinate the distribution of your requests for adoption samples to the publishers. To enter your requests, log on to the Tennessee Book Company Web site at the address below, click on “Samples” under “State Information,” and follow the instructions. The cost of samples has become a significant factor in the price of textbooks; please request only as many samples as are necessary for your teachers to review. Order samples only for those courses expected to be offered in your school system. Your Report of Adoption is due April 22, 2008. It will also be filed electronically on the Tennessee Book Company website. You will receive more information about this process at a later date. The timely filing of these reports is critical in assisting the depository and the respective publishers in projecting needs and acquiring sufficient inventory to deliver books to meet your needs prior to the opening of schools in the fall of 2008. We recommend that you appoint your committees as soon as possible and provide opportunities for them to discuss curriculum needs and to plan for careful evaluation of the approved textbooks. Attached with this document are the following forms which may be completed electronically except where original signatures are required.
