Recovery LogoThe American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009

OVERVIEW

On February 17, 2009, President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), which includes measures to modernize our nation’s infrastructure, enhance energy independence, expand educational opportunities, preserve and improve affordable health care, provide tax relief, and protect those in greatest need.

The act is a nationwide effort to create jobs, jumpstart growth and transform our economy to compete in the 21st century. The compromise package of $789 billion will create or save 3.5 million U.S. jobs over the next two years. Jobs created will be in a range of industries from clean energy to health care, with over 90% in the private sector.

ARRA FUNDS IN ECDECD Logo

The State of Tennessee is projected to receive approximately $4.5 billion over the next two years to help speed the economic recovery, create and save jobs, and provide services to those affected by these tough times. ECD will be working with Governor Phil Bredesen to create an orderly, disciplined process to make sure Tennessee funds are used to their full potential for projects that have merit and are ready to proceed quickly.

ECD will be overseeing a portion of the funds in the areas listed below.  Click on the links for more information and the latest plans and reports. Click here to view ECD's latest ARRA reports.
