ESCAPEE BACK IN TDOC CUSTODY

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A former prison escapee is back in TDOC custody after 27 years on the run. TDOC Special Agent Scott Miller tracked the inmate to a home in Millersville, TN on Tuesday, August 5.

Estill Murray, 50, escaped from the former Memphis Community Service Center in 1981 while on work release. At the time of his escape, Murray was serving a three-year prison sentence out of Obion County for passing forged checks. He had approximately six-months remaining on his sentence.

Murray was using the alias Estill Webb when he was caught. TDOC Internal Affairs Director Jerry Lester said, "Whether its ten years or thirty years, inmates on escape from the TDOC should know that we plan to pursue them until they are returned to custody."

Estill Murray is housed at the Charles Bass Correctional Complex in Nashville. The case will be referred to the Shelby County District Attorney's office for prosecution.
