West Tennessee State Penitentiary (WTSP) is
a time-building institution with a mission to serve the public by
managing adult male felons classified as maximum,
medium and minimum custody. WTSP provides a secure environment, work, education,
vocation, and leisure time opportunities for the population.
Educational and vocational programs
available are GED, Adult Basic Education, college correspondence
courses, microcomputer technology class, as well as wood
working and masonry. WTSP also has TRICOR
operations which consist of a farm, digital tag plant, and a textile
plant.
DIRECTIONS:
From Nashville - Take 1-40 to Exit 56 (Brownsville.).
Make a right turn onto Hwy. 76. Make a left turn at the 4-way
stop (Hwy. 70/76/19 JCT.) Continue through two 4-way stop signs
until coming to Hwy. 19 East/West. Make a left turn onto Hwy. 19
going West. Travel Hwy. 19 until it ends at the Hwy. 51
By-Pass. Make a left turn on Hwy. 51 By-Pass
South. Follow 51 By-Pass South approximately five miles to
Henning. At the red light, make a right turn onto Hwy. 87 West. Follow Hwy. 87
approximately 12 miles to WTSP.
From Memphis - Follow Danny Thomas Blvd. (turns into Hwy. 51
By-Pass.) approximately 46 miles to
Henning. Make a left turn onto Hwy. 87 West. Follow Hwy. 87
approximately 12 miles to WTSP.
