Human Resources Generalist

The Tennessee Attorney General and Reporter represents all State executives, officials, departments, boards, agencies, and commissions in matters arising from their public duties. Such representation includes participation in litigation, transactional matters, and giving day-to-day legal advice to a wide variety of State entities. The Attorney General's Office employs approximately 200 attorneys organized into 16 divisions within 5 sections.

Human Resources (HR) supports the Tennessee Attorney General’s Office's mission by facilitating the application experience for job candidates, administering compensation & benefits, developing policies, maintaining personnel records, and managing employee relations. HR’s goal is to cultivate a positive working culture and provide quality service to current, prospective and past members of the Tennessee Attorney General’s Office community.

Job Overview:

The human resources generalist will collaborate as part of the overall HR team by accomplishing objectives including the following:

  • Preparing paperwork and schedules for smooth onboarding processes
  • Assisting with payroll processing and benefits transactions
  • Welcoming newly hired employees by presenting informative new hire orientations
  • Providing dedicated and quality HR and benefits advisory services to members of every level of the organization
  • Ensuring compliance with federal, local and TN State Government rules and regulations
  • Coordinating seasonal projects such as employee service awards, annual charity campaign, and swearing in ceremony for newly hired attorneys
  • Interpreting human resources rules, regulations, policies and procedures
  • Maintaining accurate and complete personnel files
  • Auditing time and labor reporting
  • Supporting the HR director with employee relations matters, such as ADA reasonable accommodation requests and investigating grievances

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Experience equivalent to at least one year of human resources or administrative work.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations related to employment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Prior service in Tennessee State Government and PHR or SHRM-CP certification is a plus
