Electrical Inspection Section Information With approximately 100 contracted Deputy Electrical Inspectors (DEIs) spread across the entire state, this section performs residential, commercial, and industrial electrical inspections of new and existing structures. This section is responsible for enforcing the provisions of the 2002 edition of the National Electric Code and all state laws and rules concerning the conducting, conveying, consumption, or use of electrical energy in, or in connection, with any building, structure, or premises located in this state. Contracted private persons, companies, and governmental entities issue electrical permits at locations throughout most of the state. The Section is staffed by five (5) full-time employees: the Director, Mr. Marcus Pipkin, a secretary, Miss. Sharon Stults, and three field supervisors, one for each of the three grand divisions of the state. The Director and the Section’s secretary operate the main office located at 500 James Robertson Parkway, 3rd Floor, Davy Crockett Tower, Nashville, Tennessee 37243. Office hours are from 8:00 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. You may contact the Section by calling (615) 741-7170 or by writing to the address above. The field supervisors are responsible for supervising the work of the contracted DEIs in their respective areas of the state. The Middle and West Tennessee supervisor is Mr. Dwyot Thornton.
