NEWS! Locksmith Licensing Program Staff to attend Tennessee Organization of Locksmiths (TOOL) meeting on May 31, 2008 at the Radisson Hotel Opryland in Nashville, TN to answer questions.

Licensee/Applicant Resources

Effective date extended until July 01, 2008.

During the 2007 legislative session, the Tennessee General Assembly postponed the effective date of this law, Public Chapter 885, which requires that the Department of Commerce and Insurance, Division of Regulatory Boards license all locksmiths effective July 1, 2008.

Administrative Rules Effective May 14, 2008.
The laws and administrative rules are now posted on this site so that license and registration requirements are available to all interested applicants.

Applications are now being accepted , but will not be issued until after May 14, 2008 .

Applications submitted prior to July 1, 2008. [See attached pdf notice]
In order to be exempt from the education and examination requirements, you must be able to document that you had five (5) years experience as a locksmith as of June 25, 2007.

This office is now soliciting training courses for Commissioner approval to meet the requirements for licensing.
