The Board for Licensing Contractors was established in 1931 and strives to assure quality and fair construction practices exist in all phases of the industry, in order to protect the safety and welfare of the public, through the regulation of contracting. Licenses with the Contractors Board are regulated and required at various levels: Contractor license is required for projects in excess of $25,000; Home Improvement license is required for projects from $3,000 to less than $24,999 (in certain counties); less than $25,000, a license is required for electricians (LLE) and plumbers (LLP); and Contractor exam course providers must be approved by the Board. Note: State requirements do not exempt local government regulations. Always check with the local municipalities for their license and permit requirements.
