Species Working Groups

The NAIS (National Animal Identification System) is being developed for all animals that will benefit from having a system to facilitate rapid traceback/traceout in the event of a disease concern.  In the developmental stages, working groups representing the major species were formed to provide detailed recommendations to USDA regarding the implementation of the NAIS.  Currently, working groups consisting of industry representatives and producers are developing plans for aquaculture, camelids (llamas and alpacas), cattle/bison, cervids (deer and elk), equine, goats, poultry, sheep and swine.   Stakeholders may contact one of the Species Working Groups for more information or to provide input.

More information about each working group can be found at USDA’s NAIS Web site at http://animalid.aphis.usda.gov/nais/index.shtml, then select a working group from the audience pull down list on left.
