The Food and Dairy Section is
responsible for the inspection of dairy farms, dairy plants, milk transport
trucks, dairy and trade product distributors and milk samplers. Every dairy
product offered for sale must be registered with the Department. Such registration
includes submitting a label from each dairy product to be distributed in
Tennessee. The label is reviewed for the appropriate information and is
registered for sale if the product meets the requirements of the Dairy Law.
This section is also responsible for all food products manufactured,
distributed, or offered for sale outside of restaurants. All retail food
stores are inspected at a minimum of once every six (6) months, and we
inspect food manufacturers, food warehouses and food distributors on a
regular basis. Click here to learn about
retail food store scores. Other responsibilities include shell egg
inspections, bottled water regulations, custom slaughterhouse inspections,
hazardous substance inspection and labeling, nutritional labeling, and most
recently, the prevention of access of tobacco to minors. Food and Dairy
rules and regulations may be read by clicking here.
