WHAT'S YOUR DIAGNOSIS?


1)  A Koi fish presented with skin lesions and several other fish in the pond have died.

This little guy was found on the fish.

2)  Adult bovine lung.

       

Sudden death and the lungs did not collapse upon opening the thoracic cavity.  Marked interlobular emphysema.

3)  A three month old cross-bred calf, labored breathing noted, but two other calves have died with no observed clinical symptoms.  Muscles, lungs and heart had areas of severe hemorrhage.

    

4)  A 21 day old mastiff puppy is presented for necropsy with a history of becoming weak before dying.  Several other puppies in the litter have died over a week's time.  Both kidneys are very spotted in appearance and there are several small areas of the intestine with bloody contents.

ANSWERS

1.  Argulus americanus (fish louse), severe threat to fish by primary skin irritation and secondary bacterial infection.

2.  Atypical interstitial pneumonia (Purple mint poisoning)

3.  Clostridium chauvoei (Blackleg)

4.  Canine Herpes Virus
